One of the most common running injuries has to be tight calves, to solve this stop treating the calves!!

Why are tight calves so common?

One of the most common running injuries has to be tight calves. The protocol for treating this issue includes massage, foam rolling, stretching, hockey ball rolling, resting – the list goes on. However, are these treatments treating the symptom or the cause?

Calves don’t get tight for no reason!

Calf tightness is often due to other parts of the body unable to do their job, so the calves have no option but to kick in and hold on tight.

stop treating the calves!!

In our treatment process – we would never look at the calve in isolation. The foot is a very big player in how the calve loads. The hip and pelvis also influence how this muscle moves. It could also be linked to a shoulder being unable to move which is affecting how you rotate in gait – all of these factors should be assessed. If not, treatment is guessing. Everything should be assessed. Assess, don’t guess.

"I've been to loads of physios over the years for sporting injuries - mountain biking, snowboarding, running. None of them are a patch on Sally. Rather than treating the symptoms Sally focuses on the root cause to fix the problem and stop it occurring again. I would heartily recommend Sally to anyone. I'm back able to do the things I love most which is what is all about!"

"With the help of Move Well my right foot is feeling awesome! Although, my big toe is in shock with now having to actually behave. What a huge difference it's making and looking forward to seeing more improvements."
